if we’re going to get really technical about it, the story starts in a tattoo shop in dublin in 1998. well, that’s when ‘lucybug’ was born at least. 31 october if you want to send a card. ;)

hello, i am shannon — not lucy, though you wouldn’t be the first to assume that. i get it. but lucy is actually the name i gave the ladybug tattoo i got on my foot when i was student teaching in dublin in 1998. my parents were not totally thrilled about the idea of me getting a tattoo. initially i hid it from them, but in order to be able to walk around barefoot when i was home for christmas two months after a ladybug landed on my right foot for a lifetime stay, i told my mom. in doing so, and to help soften the blow a little bit, i also told her i named my new permanent good luck symbol after her mom, my irish nana, lucy. she swooned. my plan worked.

it also unknowingly revealed a nickname for my creative alter ego. ‘lucy-the-ladybug’ quickly became ‘lucybug’ — from first email addresses and online usernames, lucybug has always been my go-to. so it only makes sense that lucybug would be a part of this chapter.

it’s who i am and what i do.
i take photos and make cards with the photos that i hope become framable keepsakes for the recipient to enjoy for longer than a traditional greeting card.

and hopefully spread a little ladybug luck and lucybug love at the same time…!
